GOTCHA!

So far all of my posts are of my childhood injuries?  These memories stick out the most for me.  I'll try and think of a positive experience for my next post!  Anyway,  this story includes my older brother. We found two identical unusable broom sticks with out their straw.  As I said they were identical. I discovered that the straw is held together by metallic twine as illustrated on the broom stick that I am holding.  We began to use them as "Spears" and started to throw them at each other.  All fun and games until I threw mine at my brother and missed.  My brother ran as I ran to pick my spear up.  As I stood up and turned around my brother was 8 feet behind me and said "GOTCHA"!  He hurled his spear at me and it landed right on my eye!  As you can see there were rusted metallic barbs pointing out of the end in a circle and they neatly stabbed the surrounding flesh around my eye in a circle missing my eye ball.  Next thing I remember was one of my elder sisters carrying me to the bathroom only to wipe off the blood around my eye with a little bactine and sent me back out to play.

My First Punch in the Face...

My first punch in the face.

While walking home after school with my older sister and her pretty friend, of which I had a crush on, a few boys in the neighborhood started bullying us.  I really liked my sisters friend and decided to step into action.  I screamed "Leave my sister (and her pretty friend) alone!!!"  I didn't know how to fight so I started swinging my closed fists in the air and to my surprise landed my right on the temple of one of the bullies.  In a flash the boy got into a boxing stance cocked his right hand back and fired it right into my nose!  There was blood everywhere!  My sister turned into a Devil and scared all of the bullies away.  I cried all the way back home.  I was mostly embarrassed that my sisters pretty friend saw me get clobbered.

The End.

Childhood Memories series...

For years I've been mulling over what I can illustrate or paint.  Then it dawned on me why I like in my artist heroes.  Most of what they do is related to their life's experience.  The saying; "Write what you know." has always stayed with me.  Therefore I've decided to illustrate some of my childhood memories and stories.  So far, I have two I'd like to share with you.

-Enjoy!

Nail in my leg...

One Summer my Father had a few construction jobs around our house.  He decided to dump the debris out back in the yard just below the second story deck slowly creating what I called a "debris lasagna".  Debris then cardboard.  Debris then cardboard.  As the weeks/months went by some of us kids started forming ideas as to what we could do with that debris lasagna?  We turned it into a landing pad as we jumped off of the second floor deck!  The fun lasted all summer.  It kept growing.  So did my confidence.  We landed on it so much that slowly it became a debris pancake.  The card board was so compressed that upon my last jump a nail pop through and cut my leg wide open.  After a squirt of Bactine and a popsicle I returned to find my father removing the debris lasagna of fun.

The End.

Mini LA trip 2013...

Hey #sketchbook followers out there!  Finally an update.  I took a short vacation in LA this week and stayed with my lovely friends Nancy and Dylan and their cute little doggy Pepe!  What a great time we had!!!  Too bad it was so short!  They hosted a gathering of our old and new friends in LA at their beautiful home!  It was great to catch up with everyone!  Paid a few visits to a some of our old LA stomps in Santa Monica and Venice.  I wish there was work for us down there!  :-(  Here are a few #sketches I made while there.

Mickey Mouse Vs. Luke Skywalker. Sorry Luke!

after company then slashing them to keep
Shareholders happy.  WHY???

The collapse of the film and games industry with it's massive lay offs.

The Outsiders

I created this drawing way back
in my Pixar days.  I must have
been feeling left out that day?
I think it works for what we
vfx workers are putting up with.

The Outsiders.

On your mark. Get set...

An imagined race to the bottom!

On your mark!  Get set!

Are you having fun yet?

An inspired image in light of what
VFX workers are up against.

Sometimes it can feel this way.
